TorontoBars

Privacy

TorontoBars doesn't have user accounts, so the site never asks you for personal information. No logins, no profiles, no email signups. The only thing the site knows about you is what you decide to type in (a review, a suggestion) and aggregate traffic data for understanding which pages get visited.

What we store about your IP

We do log your IP address in three narrow places, all server-side:

  1. Rate limiting. So one person can't flood the moderation queue. These rows are deleted within about an hour.
  2. Vote dedup. So an up/down vote on a review counts once per IP. Stored for the life of the review.
  3. Report dedup. So flagging a review doesn't pile up duplicates from the same IP. Stored for the life of the review.

We never display IPs, never link them to other identifiers, and never share them with anyone.

Verified reviewers

A small group of trusted reviewers participate under their real names. If you become a verified reviewer (which is opt-in via emailing us), the name and photo you provide are publicly displayed alongside any reviews you submit. Because verified reviewers are individually vetted before joining the program, their reviews appear publicly without going through our moderation queue. You can ask us to deactivate your verified status at any time by emailing contact@torontobars.ca.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get visited and where traffic comes from. GA sets cookies (typically named _ga and _ga_*) and collects device, browser, approximate location (city-level, derived from IP), and the pages you view on the site. We don't use this data for ad targeting and we never link it to your reviews or other input. You can opt out via your browser's Do Not Track setting, by installing Google's Analytics Opt-out add-on, or by blocking googletagmanager.com with an ad blocker.

Spam protection

Review and suggestion forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to keep bots out. Cloudflare may collect technical browser data per their own privacy policy when their challenge runs — that part isn't something we control.
